All of the malls in Bangkok are beautifully decorated, and my favorite is the Emporium Mall.

Are you surprised to see “so much Christmas” in a Buddhist country?

Nice shots, Nancie. Some really innovative Christmas decorations here. Surprised? Not really. I think the religious aspect of Christmas is losing ground.

I am actually surprised to see so much decoration – really don’t associate Christmas with Asian countries. It certainly looks festive as do our malls – but can’t stand the crowds at this time of year.

Merry Christmas and have a very happy holiday.

We have a similar problem here in Japan, Christmas is NOT a religious holiday here in any way shape or form but, the commercialism that Xmas has morphed into has taken firm root. Still, it’s nice to see all the decorations and lights…

Being used to the Christmas decorations from Japan, I’m not surprised at all. It’s true that it’s just the commercial aspect that matters, but I love to see them!

The Christmas Panda are my favorites in this set. (^_^)

Not really surprised to see Christmas in a Buddhist country because it’s a popular commercial holiday tradition here, in Japan, as well. Your brilliantly colored photos did help fire up my Christmas spirit. Thanks, I needed that !

  8. Wonderful and festive photos! Love the angel carolers and the tree outside. Not really surprised to see these in a Buddhist country but glad to see they’re celebrating with some awesome decorations.

I was surprised when I lived in Bangkok to see all the holiday decorations considering that Thailand is a Buddhist country, they are pretty though and as an expat it helped me get into the holiday spirit.

  12. Guess it should be no more surprising than McDonald’s and Kentucky Fried Chicken. It’s all just business. Have a merry Christmas everyone…or a happy however you celebrate the solstice/end of year.

All the best Vera! Thankfully I can pretty much ignore the commercial side and enjoy the beautiful decorations:)

  13. Brings back wonderful Christmas memories! We spent two Christmas holidays in Bangkok many years ago and after the festivities there, everything paled back home. If you are there on Christmas Day drop by the Peninsula Hotel – we heard the most magnificent carolers there and the lobby was spectacular.

One of my favorite Santas was a short Thai fellow whose cotton beard fell off everytime he ‘ho, ho, ho’ed’ to the children – didn’t matter a bit to them, they were enchanted (as was I).

And as usual your photos are spectacular. Merry Christmas Nancie.

Merry Christmas Jackie! I’m actually heading out to Hua Hin today for Christmas, but I will put the Peninsula Hotel on my list for another year.

  16. What gorgeous displays — and from a country that is overwhelmingly Buddhist! Tolerance and total acceptance, or just commercialism? No matter what, it’s very beautiful.

Hope you’ve had a lovely Christmas!!!
